I joined a Caltech engineering team for the Low Resolution Imaging Spectrometer – (Blue Band Upgrade) in 1999. LRIS is an instrument which is loaded onto the Keck telescope, designed to perform spectroscopy on incoming light. This project required me to spend the summer at the WM Keck observatory as an engineering student.
My contribution was to designed and implement observatory software for identifying and characterizing flexure in the LRIS instrument, which rotates with the telescope as it tracks stars. This software is still in use today and is part of the instrument calibration procedures.
